Dr. Catherine Clemence

Graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine with my degree in 1985.  First practicing in veterinary medicine was in Langenburg, SK.  As Dr. Don Wyand's associate.  Dr's practiced together till 1989 when the practice in Russell, became available.

In 1989 Cathy moved with her soon to be husband Kim Bender, to the Russell area and established a practice at the Russell and District Veterinary Clinic.  Dr. Wyand and Dr. Clemence, were partners in practice and initially each practiced in their own area but were still sharing on call, until 1990 when they were able to higher a third veterinarian to share between the two practices.  The practice began to grow, as well did Cathy's family.   In 1992, Alex was born and in 1994, daughter Nicolle was born.  The struggles as a veterinarian were real. Cathy was extremely busy juggling children, husband, farm and practice.  About the time Nicolle was born we had 4 veterinarians and was able to practice half time for one year.  Cathy claims they were always lucky enough to have associate veterinarians.  In 2000 Dr. Wyand was to retire so the Langenburg practice went up for sale.

In 2002 and 2003 BSE hit and the PMU Industry died.  The gross of the clinic was lower at that time and Dr. Clemence was able to  practice herself for about 10 years.  Tuberculosis also was found around Riding Mountain National Park in this time so there has been a severe reduction in Food based veterinary medicine in the area.

After a time Dr. Clemence was able to afford a second veterinarian and we have continued to grow from there.  We now have 3 veterinarians sharing 2 full time positions.
